Stree is the symbol of shakti in the Indian Culture. But Empowerment of Women is a dream far to be realized. When a woman is empowered an entire family is empowered and through this the entire community is empowered.

Chetanalaya reaches out to the women in the slums and resettlement colonies of Delhi through various interventions planned and implemented with the objective of comprehensive development of the women.

6000 women are reached through the 91 awareness generation programmes organized in various places. These programmes are organized with the objective of empowering the women with the knowledge of important matters like the Right to Information Act, Domestic Violence Prevention Act, Women’s property rights, female feticide, etc.

Chetanalaya literacy programme covers 600 women every year though the adult literacy and continuing education programmes.

Gender mainstreaming programmes are taken up in all the intervention areas of Chetanalaya, through Gender Trainings and other system changing arrangements that gives more visibility to women.

Mahila Mandals are womens’ informal groups working as community based organizations that discuss the development issues pertaining to the local community and comes up with practical solutions.

Participation in the Pacnhayati Raj system through Gram Sabha and by contesting in the elections, Chetanalaya has groomed the women to challenge the patriarchal structures.

Self Defence Trainings are given to the girls with the help of the Delhi Police. This trainng not only increase the safety and security of the girls but also boosts their self esteem and confidence.

Prevention of Human Trafficking and Welfare of the domestic workers are another major intervention of Chetanalaya. Chetanalaya has forged an alliance of many stakeholders to ensure that the rights of the tribal women working as domestic helps in the households of Delhi are not abused. About 300 cases of rescue were there.
